General FAQ

ARE YOUR PANELS GALVANIZED?

Our panels go through a multi-step process. First, they are placed in a phosphate bath, electro-galvanized, another phosphate bath, next, a primer is applied and then a final powder coat.

WHY ARE MY POWDER COATED PANELS RUSTING?

The powder coat finish is designed to prevent corrosion. Most often, the panels are mishandled and the powder coat finish is scratched off. If the powder coat is broken, moisture can soak into the steel and cause the panel to rust.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CUT WILD HOG RAILING PRODUCTS?

Small bolt cutters are the easiest way to cut Wild Hog 6 gauge railing products.

HOW DO I STOP THE RUSTING ON THE RAW TAHOE HOG PANELS?

We recommend letting your panels weather to the desired look, and then applying a clear coat spray paint suitable for metal to protect the finish.

DO YOU OFFER TOUCH UP PAINT FOR THE PANELS?

Yes, please use the store locator to find your nearest stocking dealer.

CAN I INSTALL WILD HOG PANELS WITHOUT A TOP AND/OR BOTTOM RAIL?

Not recommended for proper installation.

CAN I INSTALL WILD HOG PANELS WITHOUT A TOP AND/OR BOTTOM RAIL?

Not recommended for proper installation.

DO YOUR PANELS RUST?

Steel will rust and corrosion can be accelerated depending on how harsh the environment is. The powder coat finish is designed to prevent the steel from corrosion. Harsher environments may require additional maintenance. If you want a panel that will withstand the elements, consider using our 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel USS Hog Panels.

WHAT CAN I DO IF MY PANELS START RUSTING?

Apply Wild Hog Touch Up spray paint to the affected area immediately.

WHAT OTHER METHODS ARE USED TO INSTALL PANELS?

There are 2 common methods to install Wild Hog Panels with wood posts and railing. First method is to run a groove into your top and bottom rails and let the panel rest in those channels. Second method is to wedge the panel between wood (ex: 2”x2”) and build a frame all the way around the panel.

DO YOU MAKE A STAINLESS STEEL PANEL?

Yes, USS Hog Panels are available in 3×6, 3×8 & 5×6.  For more info:  U.S.S Hog Panels

WHAT ARE HOG TUSKS?

Hog Tusks are vinyl stoppers that can be applied to the cut ends of your Wild Hog Panels. Hog Tusks protect the cut ends from corrosion and eliminate any rattling noise in heavy winds.

DO TAHOE HOG AND SMOKY MOUNTAIN PANELS FIT IN THE HOG TRACKS?

These panels do fit into Hog Tracks.  However, since the panels are woven, the ends are slightly off set and wider so minor adjustments need to be made by slightly bending the ends inward to align in the Hog Track.  A back and forth motion while easing the panel into the bottom track is helpful for proper installation.

HOW DO I REDUCE THE RATTLE AFTER INSTALLING THE PANELS IN THE HOG TRACKS?

First, make sure you use Hog Tusks on each cut end to protect from rust, these will also help to reduce rattle.  Also, applying clear caulking, and/or silicone inside the Hog Track can help reduce the rattling sound.

HOW MANY HOG TRACKS DO I NEED FOR EACH PANEL/SECTION INSTALLATION?

The NEW HOG TRACK KIT makes it easy.  For each 6’ and/or 8’ section you’re building you would order 1 Kit.  Each kit includes 2 full length Hog Tracks in either 6′ or 8′ length, 2-34” Hog Tracks, 25 Star drive screws and 50 Hog Tusks. For more info.

If you want to order individually:

3′ x 6’ Section/Panel:  3-6′ Hog Tracks, 1ea for top and bottom rail, (1-6′ track is cut to length for each side post)

3′ x 8’ Section/Panel:  2-8′ Hog Tracks, 1ea for top and bottom rail, (1-6′ track is cut to length for each side post)

Linx Pergola FAQ

Why don't my sunshade brackets match the images on the installation guide, Product box, or the website?

We made some design improvements based on customer feedback.  The new design is similar to rock climbing and hammock hangers which make the sunshade bracket installation much stronger, easier, and quicker to attach.

*New & improved bracket for attaching sunshades & hammocks

I Don't have enough screws?

The most likely reason is that all (3) screw holes in the bracket sides were filled with screws.  ONLY (4) screws per post/beam are required to achieve optimal structural integrity based on engineering reports completed on all of our products.

That means (2) screws per side, see illustration below.  The 3rd hole is left empty for attaching the sunshade bracket if used (see illustration below) or for other accessories that may be attached.  If you still need additional screws please contact the store/dealer where you made your purchase.

Example:  TRIFIT screw placement (Total of (12) screws)

What type of wood posts should be used?

You can use any straight and dry standard size 4×4 or 6×6 posts available at your local lumber retailer.  Cedar and Redwood are two of the most popular choices for pergola projects.  However, depending on your budget, you could use pressure-treated wood (least expensive) or choose a tropical hardwood like Ipe (most expensive).

Note: Lumber dimensions for standard 4×4 wood posts are 3.5”x3.5” and 6×6 wood posts are 5.5″x5.5″

how are the LINX brackets constructed?

Constructed of high-grade steel, we use 50% thicker steel than other products that provide strength and long-lasting durability.  Precision welding leaves the inside tube free and clear allowing for standard 4×4 and 6×6 posts attaching with ease, with no need for sanding or planing. LINX brackets go through a rigorous process of galvanization, primer, ending with durable long-lasting powder-coated finishes.  We also take the extra step of powder coating our fasteners to match our brackets for that finished look!

What are the dimensions of the built pergola?
 ◼︎Using 4×4 Brackets:

Add 4″ for each bracket that is used in the build.  EXAMPLE: (10’x10′) Using 10′ posts for the build, the outside dimensions are 10′ 8″ width X 10′ 8″ length x 10′ 4″ height.

◼︎Using 6×6 Brackets:

Add 6″ for each bracket that is used in the build.  EXAMPLE:  (10’x10′) Using 10′ posts for the build, the outside dimensions are 11′ width X 11′ length x 10′ 6″ height.

what is the typical height when building a pergola?

The most common height of pergolas is approximately 8′.  Using an 8′ post the overall height when using 4×4 brackets is 8′ 4″, and when using 6×6 brackets is 8′ 6″.  Please consult your local building department.

What material is the sunshade made out of?

HDPE fabric with a weight of 340 GSM (Grams per square meter), with UV inhibitor

Is the SunShade material waterproof?

No, the sunshade material is permeable (water will flow thru) and is not designed to be waterproof.

How do I clean the sunshade?

Our sunshades can be easily cleaned by using a standard hose nozzle set on spray or jet setting. DO NOT put the sunshade in the washing machine, clothes dryer, or scrub with a stiff brush, scouring pad, or an abrasive cleaner.  Exposure to certain chemicals, such as chlorine, can lead to the premature breakdown of the sunshade.

Marine-grade Dacron® Sailcloth with a maximum weight capacity of 500lbs.  The Sailcloth includes a UV Inhibitor to increase durability.

Do you have brackets that fit rough sawn 4x4 and 6x6 posts?

The LINX brackets were designed to be used with standard 4×4 and 6×6 lumber with actual dimensions of 3.5″x3.5″ and 5.5″x5.5″ respectively, with NO planing or sanding required.  The dimensions on rough sawn lumber can vary depending on a number of factors, including how it was milled and the moisture content at the time of your build.  If you are thinking about using rough sawn lumber there may be additional planing or sanding required for the posts to fit into the brackets.

Here’s one example:

◼︎ The inside dimensions of our LINX™ 4×4 brackets measure 3.70″x3.70″, a common rough sawn 4×4 Cedar post measures approximately 3.75″x3.75 a difference of .05″

◼︎The inside dimensions of our LINX™ 6×6 brackets measure 5.59″x5.59″, a common rough sawn 6×6 Cedar post measures approximately 5.75″x5.75″, a difference of .16″
